The next generation of the small-sized Peugeot 3008 crossover will receive a new design that is more in line with current trends, with a fully added electric drivetrain.

Peugeot made a strong impression with the 3008, considered one of the most popular small-sized SUV models in Europe with high competitiveness. Although it was upgraded in the second generation with an update in 2020 and equipped with a mild hybrid drivetrain in 2023, the third generation 3008 is expected to be launched later this year.

The current Peugeot 3008 was first introduced in 2016, with its SUV body showing a significant difference from its predecessor minivan model. The SUV became more attractive with the 2020 facelift featuring Peugeot’s signature LED fang-shaped headlights.

However, new car design trends also require manufacturers to update the sharp and sporty body styles for high-riding SUVs. In the third-generation Peugeot 3008, Peugeot is targeting to turn it into a coupe SUV.

The highlight of the new model will be the redesigned tail with a more angled rear door that changes the proportion and helps it compete with higher-end competitors. The 3008 will be taller than the 408 Fastback but sportier than its predecessor. The new shape will also help differentiate the 3008 from the next generation of its sibling, the 5008.

At the front, the new model is expected to have three-fang LED headlights, which will be a signature element for the entire Peugeot product range in the future, combined with a new designed grille and badge that appeared on the 2021 308 model. The current 3008’s faux air intakes will give way to a more streamlined bumper design, similar to the recent upgrade on the 508.

The design of the car body will feature simpler and more angular lines, along with a more sloping roofline towards the back. The slim LED taillights with a fang-shaped design are expected to be integrated into the dark-colored trim. The new wheel design and paint colors could enhance the exterior, while the two-tone treatment on the roof and black paint column may be transferred to the new generation.

The upcoming model is expected to follow the SUV trend by increasing its size, creating a larger gap between it and the soon-to-be-upgraded 2008 model with a length of 4,300 mm. The current Peugeot 3008 model has a size of 4,447 mm, and the new version is expected to be even longer.

This increase in size is aimed at improving the car’s proportions and providing more space for passengers and luggage, despite being an SUV-coupe.

Peugeot has officially confirmed that the new 3008 will be the first model to use the new STLA Medium platform. The pure electric E-3008 will be the first to be launched in the second half of 2023, followed by the larger E-5008.

Although emission-free propulsion will be the main focus of the new generation, Peugeot will still offer alternative options in the form of electrified propulsion for some markets that are not yet fully ready for electric cars.

The STLA Medium platform is expected to improve the electric propulsion system in terms of power and range compared to the current EMP2 platform on Peugeot E-308 and other electric models under the Stellantis group. Specifically, the range will be up to 700 km, while Peugeot will provide three different electric propulsion options for the E-3008.

In addition to the E-3008, this small-sized car may also have a new mild hybrid version of the 1.2-liter, three-cylinder PureTech gasoline engine that was introduced earlier this year. The combustion engine is supported by a single electric motor that generates 28 horsepower and is integrated into the new six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (e-DSC6), transmitting power to the front axle.

Energy is stored in a 898 Wh (432 Wh available) 48V battery pack, located under the left front seat. Overall, the combined power of the mild hybrid setup is 100 kW (134 hp) and 230 Nm of torque, with electrification resulting in a fuel consumption reduction of 15% compared to the current Peugeot 3008 model.
