MG5 mid-life upgrade launched in China

The exterior of the 2nd generation MG5 is inspired by the MG7 luxury sedan in addition to many new upgrades to the interior.

After 5 years since its debut at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, the MG5 C-class sedan has officially launched an upgraded mid-life version with a more modern design.

Because it is a facelift, the wheelbase of the car remains the same at 2,680 mm. The length of the car has increased by 40 mm, reaching 4,715 mm. The front of the car is inspired by the MG7 senior.

Still maintaining the same design that gradually swipes to the luggage compartment, the MG5 owns an LED taillight cluster design and a new rear bumper air diffuser in the same exterior color.

The biggest difference when entering the cockpit of the new MG5 is the overall design that has been refined in the direction of symmetry. The diamond-shaped chrome-plated air conditioning vents are also a highlight of the interior.

The digital taplo instrument panel and the central touchscreen are both 12.3 inches in size with a changed interface. The central console is streamlined in the number of keys.

The standard version still uses a 129 hp naturally aspirated 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or CVT transmission. The higher-end version uses a 181 hp and 285 Nm turbocharged engine, in addition to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The car is equipped with a 540-degree panoramic surveillance camera, as well as a chassis with a torsional strength of up to 25,866 Nm/degree. The automaker hopes to improve ANCAP’s 0-star rating by the end of 2023.

Customers can admire this model directly at the Chengdu Auto Show at the end of August 2024. SAIC Group expects the new MG5 to continue to be as successful as the previous version, which accounted for 50% of MG’s sales in the first half of 2024.
